A dining room table is a great woodworking project for the ambitious woodworker. Although it is not a difficult project, you ought to have some experience in woodworking before you attempt a project of this size. Fully illustrated plans to make this table are available for download below.

The plans for this table is call forĀ  3/4-, 1- and 1-1/4-in.-thick stock. If you don’t have a jointer and planer, you will have to ask your lumber supplier to prepare the boards or find a friend who can do it for you. If you are forced to outsource this task, but be sure to emphasize that the material must be flat and straight.

All the cuts in this project are straight and the joinery is fairly basic, and the rectilinear design of the Arts and Crafts style in this table simplify the fabrication process. The challenge in building an oak dining table like this is the shear size. If you have never tried to saw and join large wooden pieces like these, it can be a bit awkward until you get used to it. Having a friend or other helper is a must when dealing with some of the longer cuts.

The woodworking plans for this oak dining table project are detailed and in color. The plans include a full materials list so you can price the project easily at different lumberyards or with different types of wood. This dining table would also look fabulous in cherry or maple.

Here’s a tip: If you are planning to make the matching oak dining chairs, figure out how many chairs you need and then buy all the wood for table and chairs at the same time and from the same place. Your dining room set will then match completely. This is especially important when you apply the finish, since woods of different age, dryness, growing conditions, etc. will stain differently.
